Louisiana’s bayous are the lifeblood of our landscape.
They protect our communities from flooding, support wildlife and fisheries, and are deeply tied to the culture and traditions of our state. But every year, thousands of pounds of trash enter Louisiana’s waterways.
The Louisiana Bayou Society exists because people who love Louisiana decided to do something about it. When you join us, you help support cleanup missions, environmental education, and a growing network of volunteers working to restore and protect our bayous. Together, we can Protect the Bayou.

What We Do
Remove Trash
The Louisiana Bayou Society works to remove litter and debris from Louisiana’s bayous, protecting ecosystems, wildlife, water flow, and the cultural heritage tied to these waterways. Starting locally along Bayou LaRose, the group leads by example through hands-on cleanups, removing trash that has accumulated for decades.
Educate
We educate the public about how litter moves through Louisiana’s waterways and the real impacts it causes. Through our website, resources, and community outreach, we explain how trash contributes to flooding, erosion, and ecosystem damage while encouraging residents, schools, and businesses to prevent litter and help protect our bayous.
Take Action
We don’t just talk about the problem—we get to work. We organize hands-on cleanups, respond to litter hotspots, and partner with volunteers to remove debris from bayous and canals. Through events, partnerships, and reporting tools, we help communities take action and keep Louisiana’s waterways clean and flowing.
Louisiana Bayou Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to litter and debris removal from Louisiana’s Bayous and their watersheds.
